Our Story

Founded in the 1970s, what started as a family-owned chicken ranch evolved into a horticultural venture when founder Dan Goldman transformed vacant poultry houses in Nipomo, CA, into greenhouses and began cultivating tropical foliage. As demand grew throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Sunborne relocated closer to its customer base in San Francisco and continued to expand its offerings. In 1991, the company transitioned from a growing operation into a full-service wholesale plant distributor, providing customers with access to an extensive selection of premium indoor plants sourced from trusted growers across the country. Through determination, education, and industry partnerships, Sunborne quickly established itself as a trusted source for high-quality tropical plants to interior landscapers, florists, garden centers, event professionals, designers, and architecture firms throughout the United States. In 2018, Sunborne constructed brand new greenhouses and relocated to Richmond, California, where it currently resides.

Today, Sunborne offers a comprehensive range of services, including wholesale plant distribution, nationwide e-commerce fulfillment solutions, and professional plant rentals. Our rental program includes optional decorative containers to ensure plants arrive finished and ready for immediate placement. We also ship wholesale orders throughout the contiguous United States, helping customers access quality plant material wherever they do business.

Our commitment to quality extends beyond sourcing. Every plant is carefully inspected, cleaned, and treated before leaving our facility, ensuring they arrive healthy and pest-free.

Today, the company remains family-owned and operated, combining generations of horticultural expertise with a passion for creating beautiful, healthy environments through plants. We are dedicated to helping our customers bring their vision to life and creating lasting partnerships built on trust, reliability, and exceptional plants.
